You hear a lot of people talk about Boulder as a giant college town -- and it is. You hear people talk about how progressive Boulder is -- and it is. You hear about how fun Boulder is -- and it is. But there is one thing you don't hear about too often when this town comes up - and that is how many young families, and young people not in college live here. I just ran the numbers last night - and here is a super rough abbreviation. Roughly 45% of this town is under the age of 36 AND not a Republican. That means that more than four out of the ten people you run into here aren't old enough to be President and wouldn't dare register as a Republican. The conventional wisdom in the youth organizing world is that if you want to turn the young voters in Boudler out, you do a ton of stuff at the college. Well, here is the interesting part. Nearly 50% of the young registered voters in Boulder are between the ages of 25 and 36. What does that mean. It means if you think hitting the college HARD will turn out the youth vote in Boulder - you are only half right. We also need to go door to door, talking to newly registered young professionals and young families who live away from campus. We need to hit the bars, and coffee shops, and supermarkets and talk to potential young voters about why this election is so important, and why the need to vote for Democrats up AND down teh ticket.
